The UK's ultimate guide to Malaysia property

Driving in Malaysia

All drivers are required to hold a valid driving licence.  A foreign licence can be used for a maximum period of three months, after which it is advisable to get either a Malaysian driving licence or an International Driving Permit (which has to be renewed annually).

Like the UK, cars in Malaysia drive on the left.

The speed limit on motorways is 110 km/h. In urban areas, the speed limit is reduced to 60 km/h.  Pay attention to signs as limits can vary.  There are highway patrols that monitor speed limits.

Malaysia has drink-driving laws that are strictly and consistently enforced.  There are stiff penalties for anyone found to be driving over the legal limit.

Always wear a seat-belt. Apart from the obvious safety aspects, you can also be fined if you are found to be travelling without a seat belt.

It is forbidden to use a mobile phone whilst driving.
