Malaysia offers a lifetime of leisure activities. Nature lovers will be entranced by some of the most biologically diverse environments on the planet, including some of the world’s most ancient rainforests. For those who enjoy outdoor activities there is hiking, rock climbing, white water rafting and much more. Its clear crystal waters, tropical islands and reefs teeming with marine life makes it a top diving destination. Sports fans and players can enjoy activities from world class golf to Formula One motor racing.
Nature
Malaysia is blessed with a wealth of natural attractions. Around 75 per cent of Malaysia is forested, including 60 per cent virgin rain forest. There is also a network of beautiful national parks to preserve them and other important natural environments.
Malaysia's states of Sarawak and Sabah, on the island of Borneo, offer several amazing national parks. Gunung Gading National Park, Sarawak, is home to the world's largest flower, Rafflesia. Gunung Mulu National Park, Sarawak, has some of the world's largest caves and incredible karst limestone scenery. Kubah National Park, Sarawak, the orangutan's habitat. In the Kubah National Park, Sarawak, is Gunung Kinabalu, which at 4,100m is South East Asia's tallest mountain.
West Malaysia's Taman Negara National Park has what is proclaimed as the world's oldest rainforest. There is also the Endau Rompin National Park in Johor, with pristine rainforest and a sanctuary for the endangered Sumatran rhinoceros.
Golfing
For golf fanatics, Malaysia has many great golf courses in a wide choice of settings. These range from overlooking tropical beaches to cool highlands. Some of the courses have been designed by golfing luminaries such as Jack Nicklaus, Max Wexler and Robert Trent-Jones. Many are within five-star resorts, offering a host of luxury attractions.
Diving
Malaysia is a top draw for divers. The clear topical waters, rich marine bio-diversity and attractive locations, such as tropical islands and sandy beaches, have much to offer. It also has many well-equipped and internationally accredited dive centres. Malaysia caters for all levels of diving experience, from shallow drift diving to advanced wreck diving.
Sailing paradise
Malaysia is a great yachting destination. The country has a rich maritime history as a focal point of trade between India and China. Today, there are a host of well-equipped and attractive marinas and yacht clubs.
The Straits of Malacca on the west coast is the main cruising route for yachts travelling from Australia to Thailand and westwards to other destinations. The quieter east coast of the Malaysian Peninsular offers many peaceful islands, such as the wonderful Tioman islands, and other destinations in which to unwind and enjoy. East Malaysia's Sabah and Sarawak coastline are also becoming increasing popular cruising destinations.
